Hero: Sound Sensing Robot

The Hero Sound Sensing Robot is a build-it-yourself STEM kit that introduces children to the fascinating world of robotics and acoustics. Comprised of 142 individual pieces, the assembly process offers hands-on insight into mechanical and electronic systems. Once built, the robot utilizes three directional microphones to perceive, locate, and react to sound patterns in its environment. It features a unique spherical design with movable arms that can retract into its body and a large, illuminated eye for facial expressions. Users can interact with the robot through clapping or using the included castanet to trigger various behaviors. This award-winning kit also includes a 52-page full-color manual that combines step-by-step instructions with an educational adventure comic.
